Trout
Trout
There is talk of taking the bull by the horns and initiating our own restoration of sea run Brown Trout in the Parker and possibly the Ipswich Rivers. A 10 year effort to restore “salters” in Red Brook down on the Cape has been successful as shown in this photo of a returning Brookie. Notice the silvery cast to the fish and its extended belly.
The folks at First Light Anglers are spearheading an effort to petition MassWildlife to supply fish for this effort. The Parker and Mill Rivers are better suited for a successful program because of better fish passage around dams. According to Vern Lang, fisheries biologist for USFWS, the Ipswich could be an excellent salt run fishery if the Sylvania Dam were not there.
The effort will require funds for the fish. Your support will be requested, so get ready.
