Winter Moth, its a wrap

The photo above shows the collection of female Winter Moths trying to climb my brother’s sugar maple to lay their eggs for next year’s defoliation.

He applied a fiber glass band around the tree to fill in the irregular valleys in the bark and then applied the tree wrap over that.  The Tanglefoot was applied to the paper tree wrap.

The very sticky Tanglefoot not only killed the females, their pheromones have attracted males which also get caught.

Fewer females laying eggs means less defoliation next spring and summer. Cost is about 75 cents per large tree.
