Farms Disappearing

An upcoming exhibit (starting Sept. 30) in the Topsfield Library will offer a glimpse into our history of farming.  As part of it, there will be maps showing the original settlement of land in the 1600’s and how much of that land has been lost to residential development, primarily since 1950. The map shown is of the Daniel Boardman Farm of 1665 and what is remaining as the Nutter Farm of 2010.  It has gone from 300 acres down to 30.  Other exhibits will show the history of the Crowenshield Farm and Meredith Farm along with a history of the Essex County Agricultural Society or the Fair.
